//PRODUCTION
Development
At this stage the basic concept for the project is outlined. Whether it is be an animated short, music video, or a visual effect, the treatment needs to be developed in order to find a balance between what is right for the project to get started and what can be worked out later. From this, initial concept art and stroyboards are worked out to establish the style and flow.
Pre-Production
Temporary audio (also known as "Scratch Tracks") are recorded based on the storyboards. Later, when the project is further along, the scratch tracks are replaced by the final audio. From this, a rough (or animatic) is created. In the animatic, each shot is worked out to ensure the timing is correct and there is a clear understanding of the project. At this stage, the concept art is fined tuned.
Production
Using the the concept art is necessary for the production artist and animators to create all the project assets. This includes models, textures, animation rigs, and sets. As the production assets are created, everything is organized and put into place according to where it fits in the project. At this stage the shot organzers merge, layout, and arrange each shot accordingly, and the animator(s) go to work on bringing elements to life. After a shot is animated and approved, lighting, effects, and any simulations are added.
Post-Production
Final touches are added to polish everything up. All the sound is added, and any additional effects are put in place. The project is then transfered to the appropriate media, whether it be film, DVD or web. |
